We decided that Friday, September 26th would be a good day to launch some of our projects, but more importantly, to make connections with each other and the community. Jason Stier contacted East China Township Park and made it all happen. Our students arrived excited about the possibilities. Teachers initiated projects such as Photo Essays in Pat's English Class, as well as, Project Adventure activities which are designed for team building, self esteem, collaboration, creative thinking, and communication. These are essential elements to project based learning. Students need to depend on each other in order to work together in a cohesive team.
Mrs. Beaudry, one of our parents, was on hand to take pictures. As soon as they are made available, I will post them on our blog.
At REHS we are always telling students to think "outside the box." Well, this time we not only told them to think outside the box, we took them out of the box to engage in some "real world" learning.
It was a fun day for all of us.
Our morning ended with one of our students getting injured on the playscape. He is fine, but what I am most proud of is how those around him responded. One student taking off his own shirt to place on the student's wound, the other running for help, and another holding a compress on his head so stop the bleeding. Needless to say, I was very proud of the students and staff that reacted so quickly and appropriately to help. Good Job Everyone!
The students are still talking (and writing) about this great experience!
